I created the images for this book with a Polaroid land camera and my grandmother's clunky typewriter in 2003, shortly after my grandfather's death. They depict the solitary mile that separates my grandparents' farm from Highland Lutheran Church and Cemetery where he is buried in rural Cummings, North Dakota. Traveling that stretch of familiar road alone, contemplating the previous week's funeral preparations, I found my own way of saying goodbye to him. The images were scanned and digitally reproduced to make a limited edition of 11 books. Each is signed, numbered, and housed in a protective clamshell case.
